The Cool Truth: One Man’s Mission to Keep Las Vegas Honest and Air-Conditioned
How a legacy of craftsmanship, grit, and service built one of the Valley’s most trusted HVAC companies—without a single billboard.
The metallic clatter of tools echoes through the morning as Ben tightens the final bolt on a rooftop unit under the sweltering Nevada sun. It's already over 100 degrees, but this is just another day at work for him. His shirt is soaked, but his voice is calm, assuring the homeowner below that the cool air is on its way. No team of marketers sent him. No flashy trucks announced his arrival. He’s here because someone else said, “Call Ben—he’s the guy who’ll do it right.”
That’s the heart of Full Spectrum Service LLC, better known around the Valley as FSS. Built from the ground up, this HVAC company stands as a quiet but steadfast guardian against the desert heat—and the industry’s growing reliance on upsells and shortcuts.
From Job Sites to a Dream Realized
The seeds for FSS were planted long before the first invoice was ever written. Ben grew up on job sites, working alongside his father, who ran a small handyman business. His dad was a jack-of-all-trades—drywall one day, electrical the next—and he carried an old-school sense of duty to his clients that left a lasting impression on Ben.
“I would go on these jobs with him, and he would just help people solve all of their problems,” Ben recalls. “I was like, man, this would be a great idea. Something I enjoy doing.”
That idea turned into Full Spectrum Service, a name that embodies the original vision—a single call for all a homeowner’s mechanical needs. In 2013, Ben enrolled in trade school to earn his diploma in heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration technology. After graduating, he worked at Southwest Air Conditioning, a legacy company dating back to the 60s. Under the mentorship of owner James Halverson, Ben sharpened his skills and learned what it meant to truly serve clients.
When the company closed its doors, Ben decided to strike out on his own. FSS officially opened in 2018, and though the path since then hasn’t been without setbacks, his commitment has never wavered.
Tested, Broke, and Unbroken
Starting a business isn’t for the faint of heart. For Ben, it meant learning everything the hard way—running operations, budgeting, and staying afloat when the odds weren’t in his favor.
“I’ve had to close my business twice and go get a job, just to make money and save enough to go back out and do it again,” he says. “The biggest challenge has been staying dedicated and focused.”
Yet every tough season was met with resolve. He never took out loans, never gave up ownership, and never stopped believing in honest service. A mentor once told him to “buy every tool like you’d buy a cheeseburger” and avoid debt at all costs. That lesson stuck.
Today, FSS runs lean and loyal. No websites, no paid advertising. Just a single Instagram post, a solid Nevada contractor’s license, and a phone that rings because someone’s neighbor said, “Call Ben.”
Fixing, Not Replacing—The Lost Art of Service
What sets FSS apart is simple, but rare in the HVAC industry: a focus on repairs, not replacement.
“We’re one of the last great holdouts for the old-school service company,” Ben says. “Nobody knows how to fix the stuff anymore. All they know how to do is replace it.”
He’s not exaggerating. In a market saturated with big-name companies pushing expensive upgrades, FSS prides itself on extending the life of systems, offering precision tune-ups, and making informed repairs that save customers thousands.
“We’re qualified to work on everything—mini splits, inverter units, gas packages, you name it. And we do sheet metal fabrication too,” he says.
Their range of expertise means that whether it’s a sizzling home in Summerlin or a stuffy restaurant on the Strip, Ben and his crew know how to bring the temperature down—without inflating the bill.
A Company That Knows Your Name
There’s no receptionist at FSS. No customer service tree. When clients call, they get Ben—or someone he personally trained.
“All the clients I’ve signed since 2018, we’ve kept. They all have my cell number,” he says. “When they have a problem, they reach out directly. We’re finding a solution immediately.”
That personal touch is what keeps customers coming back. FSS is family-owned, locally grown, and organically sustained by word-of-mouth alone. Every job, whether it's in a tight attic or a full-scale commercial property, is approached with the same care and clarity.
“There’s never any miscommunication. You’re dealing directly with the people who know what’s going on,” he says. “And if there’s ever an issue, someone picks up, and we show up.”
Las Vegas Cools With Trust, Not Hype
Despite having no formal online presence until recently, FSS has become a go-to name in HVAC services for locals who value integrity. Their pricing undercuts most competitors by 15 to 40 percent—not because they cut corners, but because they cut out overhead and operate with total efficiency.
“Our finished product speaks for itself,” Ben says with quiet confidence.
In an industry driven by sales commissions and flashy deals, Full Spectrum Service is an outlier—and a welcome one. They’ve repaired systems others insisted were dead. They’ve cooled homes in crisis when no one else picked up the phone. They’ve even kept entire restaurant chains in operation during peak season, all without asking for applause.
Lessons from the Heat
When asked what he’d tell new entrepreneurs, Ben doesn’t sugarcoat it.
“Don’t be afraid to try. If you’ve got an idea and hustle and the ethic, get out there and get it,” he says. “As a small business owner, your worst-case scenario is everyone else’s Plan A.”
The lessons he’s learned—through grit, trial, and necessity—have shaped a business that doesn’t just survive, but stands tall as an example of what’s still possible when you lead with integrity.
And as Las Vegas bakes under another record-setting summer, Ben’s short-term plans are as focused as ever: “It’s summertime. Our only plan is to keep Las Vegas cool.”
